Floodplain Restoration Project
NC Department of Justice Environmental Enhancement Grant - Awarded $270,000 via Piedmont Conservation Council. Use grant funds:
- To acquire property that is within the 100 year floodplain; and
- For stream restoration, stormwater bmp/bio retention, vegetative buffer, remove impervious surface, wetland enhancement, educational signage, passive park, and walking trail.
The Floodplain Restoration project includes land acquisition of 6 acres between South Chatham Avenue and South Cedar Avenue; removal of a condemned house off of South Chatham Avenue, extensive invasive plant and trash removal, and stream and floodplain restoration. At project completion the land will be gifted to the Town of Siler City for use as open green space that could potentially be used in the future by the town as an area for an environmental learning park and/or floodplain trail.
Project was funded through an Environmental Enhancement Grant from the NC Department of Justice. Piedmont Conservation Council awarded $270,000 for the project. In addition to PCC and the Town of Siler City, project partners included Unique Places Realty, Kris Bass Engineering and Biocenosis LLC.
